Today, OSI is entering its third major phase of development.
- V1 — 1992–2004: invention, experimentation and development of the first methods.
- V2 — 2005–2026: international expansion of genuine scientific research through experiential Science Trips, and development of Research Programmes, teams and tools.
- V3 — from 2027 onwards: OSI refocuses on its role as an international Institution and shared Platform, serving a network of autonomous Organisers and Research Institutes.
A Profound Transformation for a Sustainable Operating Model
The organisational transition of 2026 marks the end of the model in which OSI directly assumed a large share of the production, coordination and financing of its Operations.
This is not the end of Science Trips. It is a new way to make them possible, multiply their reach and finance them more effectively.
From now on, responsibilities are clearly distributed:
- Independent Organisers prepare, market and deliver the trips, using their own teams, infrastructure and operational responsibilities.
- Research Institutes lead the scientific Programmes, ensure the quality of research protocols, the continuity of research activities and the financing of their year-round scientific work.
- OSI — Institution and Platform provides its methods, standards, tools, networks, training, matchmaking, support and scientific and educational quality monitoring.
This new organisation makes it possible to significantly reduce central operating costs, better pool existing expertise and develop economically sustainable activities.
OSI thus strengthens its role as an international reference point and guiding light for Participatory Science and Research for Impact, supporting the production of knowledge, individual empowerment and personal capacity development.
Our ambition to finance more scientific research through citizen participation remains fully intact. It now relies on scientific, philanthropic and institutional funding that complements income from trip registrations.

OSI’s Expertise and Partners Have an Essential Role in This New Phase
Are you among the science educators, former field instructors, researchers, Programme leaders, partners, observers or advocates who already know OSI?
Your experience, skills, networks and projects can contribute directly to V3.
You do not need to become an Organiser to continue contributing. Partner Organisers recruit their own teams and can welcome experienced OSI professionals.
New opportunities are also emerging in Step One training, knowledge transfer, mentoring, monitoring of genuine scientific research and educational practices, as well as quality support for Operations.
Do you know an Operation that deserves to be revived? A competent Organiser? A Research Institute, territory or funder that might be interested? Let us connect and build the next chapter together.
Different Ways for Everyone to Contribute
- Donors, philanthropists, investors and financial partners: discover how to finance OSI’s development, research, training and capacity-building activities.
- Organisers of trips, expeditions, camps and training programmes: propose your activities and join OSI’s international Science Trips Platform.
- Research Institutes, laboratories and universities: propose your scientific Programmes and expand your research to new field sites and new audiences.
- Local authorities, territories, natural parks and development agencies: invite OSI to help develop a regenerative science tourism sector that generates skills, income and territorial impact.
- Educators, field instructors and former team members: get back in touch to contribute to new Operations, training programmes and quality mentoring.
- Participants, families and educational institutions: discover the Science Trips, expeditions, camps and training programmes in the OSI catalogue.
Join Us in December to Discover the 2027 Science Trips!
Starting in December 2026, new Operations for 2027 will progressively be added to the international catalogue, featuring new Organisers, destinations, formats and scientific partnerships.
Some longstanding activities may return with new Organisers. Others, entirely new, will enrich the four main Departments: Children–Teenagers–Families, Adults and Expeditions, School Trips, and Scientific and Technical Training.
What we have been building since 1992 continues. What is changing is our ability to develop it together, on a new scale and on sustainable economic foundations.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this journey, and welcome to all those who wish to take part in its next phase.
We look forward to building Objectif Sciences International V3 together!
