Sommaire

Pour chaque candidat, une liste est faite de tous les dispositifs de missions auxquels son profil lui donne droit

Systématiquement, le premier format choisi est celui le plus court et le plus simple de tous, qui permette de passer ensuite par un autre dispositif. L'objectif est ainsi de permettre à une même personne de s'épanouir et de se rendre très utile et efficace sur un poste qui correspond à la fois à ses formations, à ses attentes et à ses projets de vie et professionnel.

Chaque stagiaire reçu sur une durée initiale de 3 à 6 mois, peut donc être reconduit sur le même poste une nouvelle durée de 6 mois, dans un autre dispositif, puis pour une autre durée encore de 12 mois, ce qui fait qu'une même personne peut rester jusqu'à 2 ans, parfois même 3, au sein de la structure.

Suite à cette première longue période de mission cofinancée (Union Européenne, Fondations, Thèse d'Etat...), plusieurs postes peuvent être proposés en Contrat de Longue Durée sur les Postes de l'Organigramme du Groupe Local et des Programmes de l'ONG, qui sont à Pourvoir.

In-depth work has been continuously carried out since the founding of the NGO (1992) and every year to keep its Educational Charter (Educational Project) up to date.

OSI's Charter for Research Integrity

Sommaire

1) Training of Participants

Participants will be trained in the scientific approach: developing research questions, creating protocols, writing results and perspectives, and all processes necessary for their mission.
All stays can be recognized as an internship for a student, with the agreement of the scientific educator and the program manager.
During a participatory stay, the participant is invited to share their specific knowledge with teammates to further enrich the research project.

2) Data Collection

Data collection must:

Comply with the laws of the study country and international laws.
Respect the local culture, its beliefs, and customs.
Promote, when available, methods that do not harm the integrity of the study subject (wildlife, flora, landscape...).
The study should be conducted with minimal impact on the field and must comply with the ethical charter for observing wildlife (see environmental charter).

3) Data Rights and Sharing:

All collected data are open data under Creative Commons license. By default, they will be published under a CC license (“Attribution + Non-Commercial Use + No Derivatives + Share Alike”). However, each program manager may decide to publish certain data under a more permissive CC license (allowing modifications, for example).
Participants who contributed to the data collection must always be credited and acknowledged.

Participants, mentors, partners, or any other individuals participating in an OSI stay agree that the collected data can be used and published as open data for scientific purposes by the NGO's research programs or any other institutional research organization.
Data and knowledge sharing can be done:

with student interns
with other entities, NGOs, researchers, etc.
on participatory databases (e.g., observation.org for biodiversity)

4) Publication of Results

The publication of results is always carried out after validation by the responsible manager of the relevant scientific program within the NGO.
It can be done:

On the websites of each of the NGO's research programs
In journals and/or on science outreach websites
On participatory platforms like PrePrint (e.g., BioRxiv.org and ResearchGate)
In scientific journals with an impact factor

5) Relationship with Public or Private Partner Laboratories

Without a more restrictive contract, institutional partners participating in an OSI participatory project outside their official positions retain their independence.
The NGO commits not to file for patents (see Creative Commons license)

6) Management and Communication of Research Projects

The NGO commits to publicly presenting all its research projects and their progress at least twice a year, during the Geneva Forum and the strategic committees of each research project.
Research programs, through their managers, commit to considering feedback from colleagues, partners, participants, and the scientific community during their evaluations and planning.
Research program managers commit to publishing their scientific reports at a minimum on their website, and possibly in scientific journals in collaboration with relevant partners, in addition to their activity reports.
In cases involving data on sensitive species, scientific reports may not be posted online and will only be sent upon request (with a note about the availability of such reports on the website).

7) Research Project Ethics

Research projects aim to increase knowledge while respecting living and non-living entities, in line with the 17 SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) defined by the UN.
The objectives of the projects are apolitical, secular, and non-dogmatic.
The OSI NGO commits to verifying and respecting the ethics of research projects through internal and peer review, which occurs once a year during the strategic committees of each NGO program.

Awareness Workshop

An initial presentation on the role and work of a trainer traditionally takes place during the Pre-Camps, at the Center, for new members who have not yet participated. Being a Trainer: Level 1

Be a member of Objectif Sciences International
Have led scientific workshops during scientific stays or in other settings (Science Classes, etc.)
Be interested in training general adults (teachers, activity leaders, passionate individuals...) in techniques for conducting scientific workshops in your area of expertise, such as teaching educators to conduct astronomy, archaeology, ecosystem, architecture workshops, SPIP programming, etc.
Preferably, have attended the awareness workshop (see above)
Be ready to lead your first training for a general audience. The training sessions you conduct will enable you to receive the standard trainer's pay, which is the pay of a Professional Scientific Educator.

Format: 2 days

Dates and Location:

Fall during the Preparation Period, at the Scientific Stay Center or in the offices of the Operations Directorate of your OSI Local Group.

Objectives:

This Level 1 training will enable you to create a training program for a general audience (educators, teachers, the general public...) that empowers them to conduct one or more technical workshops in which the trainee masters the content.

This Level 1 training will teach you to:

Listen to and understand a training request
Develop a training plan (content, timing, objectives)
Prepare training materials (documents, handouts, etc.) for both trainers and trainees

This Level 1 training includes individual support from Efficience Formation (OSI) during the preparation of your first training session. This individual support comprises five sessions:

Across all of the NGO's websites, the procedure is the same. This training guides you on the methodological frameworks to follow.

You will not be able to join an NGO team, whether through employment or a mandate, if you do not master the internal work technique for writing and publishing articles online on a Content Management System such as SPIP. This task is very simple. However, it must be done at least once; otherwise, without learning through practice, this technique, however simple, will never be learned or fully understood. Yet this technique is very simple.

When you are carrying out your mission in the field, you will need to publish the day's activity. Too many colleagues in the past have regretted not mastering the basics listed on this page; this is why this training was created by those educators in the past. Take advantage of it by following this training in all the points it covers.

IMPORTANT: For support or to consult with someone regarding this training and the writing of your article, if you are in the application phase, do not contact your recruiter. Instead, follow the instructions provided below, including and especially with respect to your designated contact.

The person assigned to assist you with this training and article writing is dedicated to supporting this training program, and their role may change from year to year. They will respond if you post your message in the forum function on this page.

This training will enable you to definitively learn how to publish an article on one of the NGO's websites.

Publishing an article on one of the NGO's websites is a mandatory step to join the team, regardless of the strength of your profile. Completing this publication is simple. Just follow the instructions on this page without multitasking.

This training consists of three simple steps:

Quick selection of your article topic + selection of the website that will host your article
Creating the article in “draft mode” + directly online improvements to its content
Submission for online review + publication on the public display of the website hosting the article

This article writing task is unpaid and is a hands-on learning experience that allows you to demonstrate your ability to work within the team's established frameworks. There is no need to write a long article, but keep in mind that it will be added to your list of articles within the NGO's network, so pay careful attention to both its content and format. Selecting the Website for Your Article

Important to understand:

Unless you are creating a new article as an internal tutorial for colleagues on how to carry out a specific action, you should NOT create your article on this Resource Center site you are currently on.

Instead, choose the site relevant to your article's topic (e.g., www.osi-panthera.org, www.osi-perception.org, etc.) and go to the /ecrire section of that site. Simply add /ecrire to the homepage URL of your chosen site to access it as an author. Begin by creating a user account, then once you're in the /ecrire area, click “Create an Article.”

Each website is ENTIRELY independent from the others. This means you must create a user account on the specific website you choose. You'll need to provide your email, name, etc. If you prefer to customize your password to avoid forgetting it, use the “forgot password” function after receiving the initial password to set your own. (IMPORTANT: Currently, there are issues with email delivery to Yahoo addresses. Please use an email other than Yahoo if possible. Choosing a Topic

Quick Selection of Your Article Topic:

Accelerated and Simplified Procedure for Defining Your Article Topic

Identify the 1, 2, or 3 scientific or educational domains, strategic policy areas, or philosophical topics that you are most knowledgeable about and/or enjoy. Anyone can find a preferred topic at this stage, even if new to a field.
Visit the website that interests you most from the list above and based on the domains on which you would like to propose an article.
On the public version of the website, identify the list of already published topics.
In the site's back-office version (i.e., the /ecrire link for the domain), identify the list of topics in progress (all articles in white) or under review (all articles in orange).
Define a topic that is not yet published or in progress or under review, and click “Create a New Article.”
Insert your text and click “Save.”
Edit your article as often as you like. At this stage, it is neither published nor under review.
This is an introductory article as part of an exercise to familiarize yourself with our Internet publishing tools. Write an article that you can submit for review as soon as possible, and no later than before your recruitment interviews, which will take place during Training St1.
When you reach a point where you feel “stuck” and unsure how to proceed with your article, it's time to submit it for review. This is how NGO colleagues can assist with their feedback. To submit an article for review, click “Submit for Publication,” located to the left of your article title after saving your text.

For introductory training, for a very first article, the length is unimportant. What matters is that you can quickly (within a few hours over a maximum of 10 days) reach its final publication on one of the NGO's websites. If your article is short, that's perfectly fine. If you decide to write a longer article, that's also great. The length may depend on your available time.

Your name will appear as the author, giving you visibility in your professional theme. The time you invest may depend on how beneficial and significant it is to you.

Writing Your Article

Once you have created your account on the /ecrire extension of your chosen site, click “Write a New Article” in the middle of the screen, draft your text, validate it, and submit it for review without waiting for it to be perfect. The Resource Center team will automatically be notified of your submission and can guide you in writing. If you do not click “Submit for Review,” the OSI Resource Center team will not be informed of your article's existence and will be unable to support you in this training.

Once your article is ready for peer review, the Resource Center will inform all members concerned with your article's topic, who will then review it and help with feedback (which you will receive via email).

Soon after, your article will be published.

Don't wait another second; this process is straightforward, but you will only realize this once you try it the first time!

To draft your article text, follow the instructions below.

Formatting Your Article:

We strongly advise against drafting your article in software like Word or Open Office, as some special characters like “...” will not render correctly when pasted into the site's publication space.

Additionally, formatting done in your text editor will not be applied on the website. Avoid any formatting in Word or Open Office, as this work will be lost and time wasted. Draft directly on the website and format your text online using the site's interface. This will help you understand how the tool works.

Be careful not to lose your work when saving. If your internet access drops, for example, your work would be lost upon clicking “save.” We highly recommend copying and pasting your text into a separate document to keep it safe in case of a temporary browser or internet access issue. Caution is always wise, especially if it would mean losing two hours of unique inspiration.

The NGO has chosen the SPIP CMS as a collaborative work tool among many open-source options, as its use of “SPIP code” for formatting (see further down in this tutorial) ensures consistent formatting across all pages of the sites, preventing overly varied layouts on different pages of the same site, unlike CMSs allowing HTML formatting. Therefore, you should NOT use HTML code for formatting your articles, even if you know HTML, but instead learn to use SPIP code. The same goes for mathematical formulas, which our tool also supports! You do not need to generate formula images in another software. You can insert international LaTEX code directly into your article, and a formula image will appear (see further down in this tutorial).

Types of Articles

Regardless of the type of article listed below, it will always be an “article” in technical terms in the back office (./ecrire) of the sites. The difference will lie in the content, style, and approach you use for your project:

In-Depth Article

An open-structure article designed to provide an overview of knowledge in a specific field. This should be distinct (as much as possible) from an educational brief, which summarizes completed and ongoing research and the related educational approaches.

Educational Briefs / Activity Sheets / Project Sheets ???
The Pedagogical Sheets, general purpose, can then be broken down into several Activity Sheets, each constituting a separate article.

The Activity Sheets and Pedagogical Sheets together form the resource set that the Project Sheets can list and organize logically among them. These Project Sheets are articles that simply list in an organized way the Activity Sheets and Pedagogical Sheets logically relative to one another. Sometimes comments may be added to the Project Sheet article. The Project Sheets can also be viewed as orientation maps grouping multiple articles.

The Pedagogical Project, in turn, brings together all the objectives and means to be implemented for a scientific education operation (as seen in Pre-Camps, for example). The Pedagogical Project is a fully drafted document prepared through a separate work process that you will learn about in another training session.

The Technical Kits gather all the equipment, in a compact and portable volume, needed to carry out a specific activity. They are documented by the exact list of equipment and a few Technical Sheets.

Finally, the Pedagogical Cases that gather all these sheets and necessary materials can be used by other associations besides ours or by schools, colleges, and high schools.

Please do not submit charts as images but instead submit them using the JpGraph feature (click here to learn more) installed on our websites.

Moreover, regarding the chart colors, we kindly ask you to prioritize the following colors:

first value: line color representing the curve = Use the color brown
second value: background color of the area between the curve and the horizontal axis = Use the color gold
third value: none - please do not create a gradient

Inserting photos in your article

You should include photos illustrating your points within your article (not just as an unattached file outside the text). You can scan hand-drawn illustrations and diagrams, whether they are colored by hand or digitally. This can also create a very good effect.

If, in certain cases, you need to include photographs of young people engaging in activities to illustrate your article, please note that it is not permitted to include the children's last names or any information that could reveal their home address, school, etc. Only their first names should appear in the article.

To Do

Images must be inserted as SPIP DOCUMENTS at the bottom of the unedited article and not [yellow background]as[/yellow background] SPIP IMAGES next to the edited article (if this is unclear, create an article and take a look, and you'll find the space for inserting DOCUMENTS).

There are 3 (three) possible ways to insert images that are supported by the site's design and by any future design changes.

Inserting a banner of 3 images at the end of a series of paragraphs (this is the preferred method for your use, please)

Inserting an image that spans the full page width (to be used the least often), reserved for:
1. the most beautiful images

Each image must be smaller than 5 MB.

Another quick solution! You can insert images that are online on the internet (not saved on your hard drive) into your article. This has the major advantage of NOT using the internet connection of your current location (the image exchange, which is large, occurs directly between the website server hosting the image and the website where you are drafting your article). To do this, please follow the simplified procedure below:
- Register on the site www.osi-photos.org
- Once your account is approved, log in to www.osi-photos.org
  - If you are logged in on the osi-photos site, you can view the original image without the watermark. Left-click on the watermarked image to open the unwatermarked version.
  - Next, click on “download” on the unwatermarked image, add at least one relevant keyword (e.g., girls, fossils, etc.), rate (only 1 star for low-interest photos), confirm, and copy the provided URL.

At the bottom of your article, in the image source, click on “internet”

In the image URL field, click “paste” (the image URL is pasted)

Upload.

WARNING: if you are unsure whether the website where you retrieved the image will remain online indefinitely, you must:
- Click “edit” on the image

Then click “copy to the site”

Of course, place the image where you want in your text, by inserting its code.

These few steps, described here in detail for clarity, take only a few seconds, which is FAR LESS TIME than uploading an image from your hard drive.

Do not

Do not resize an image to reduce its physical dimensions, only reduce its file size.

Do not lose the image's metadata by reducing its dimensions, as this would erase all the information about how the image was taken. The best option is to resize images on the fly using software like Windows Picture Manager, installed on all Windows computers (or equivalent on Linux).
Avoid taking photos smaller than 1 MB, as most of the time (>90% of cases), these photos are low quality and lose even more quality when enlarged. It is better to take them directly at 4 or 5 MB or larger and then reduce (which only takes a few seconds using software like Windows Picture Manager with a right-click on the images). The original large versions from your camera can be used for print publications, or to create exhibitions or books if your article becomes successful.

Do not insert images that obviously contradict your message. For example, including a photo of a kayaker without a helmet in the middle of a river rapid in a brochure for a Kayak Club, which is supposed to promote safety habits for young people! It's the same principle here. Make sure to choose quality backgrounds and environments for your photos.

Videos

The table of contents is created AUTOMATICALLY if you enclose subtitles with {{{3 braces}}} and as soon as you have at least 2 subtitles formatted this way.

To Do

Formulate your subtitles differently than “Introduction,” “Discussion,” and “Conclusion”; while following this general structure, try to give your subtitles evocative titles. For example, “General Information on Octopuses,” “Proven Logical Abilities,” “The Animal's Physiology,” “Potentialities.”

Do Not

Do not color the subtitles, as the color scheme is automatically applied according to the site's design guidelines,
Do not simply make them bold; otherwise, the table of contents will not be created.
Do not write your subtitles entirely in uppercase letters.

Copyright and Ownership

The article is written by one or more authors who hold copyright in at least two respects:

they must be credited as the source if it is republished elsewhere

they must receive part of the sale revenue if the article is sold in any form (the proportion for the association and the authors will be calculated at the first available opportunity - ongoing projects)

In both cases, the association acts as the defender of the authors' rights.

The article is written within the context of the association in at least two respects:

during paid or volunteer work,

with the support and resources provided by the Resource Center (including this page, and also because the Resource Center provides the websites where you publish the article).

For these reasons, the association owns the article (as the contact point for sales, etc.). This ownership strengthens the role of protection that the association must play to ensure the authors' rights are respected.

Credits to Mention

The article may be cited in full on a platform not managed by the association (websites, books, magazines...). In this case, the article copy must:

indicate that it is a duplicate of the original and provide a link to the original on the relevant association site or to the store page if it is for print media, etc.

If a member of the association (or anyone else) has written an article entirely outside of the association (and it is therefore not owned by the association) and wishes to make it available on one of the association's sites, the association will label the article as a duplicate, include a link to the original, and credit the author(s) with links to their profile pages on the association's site if they exist. If there is no profile, the association will create one or link to an external profile if the author cannot have one on the association's site.

Tips

About masculine and feminine: It is easier to state at the beginning of the article that masculine pronouns are used for simplicity. However, if you prefer to give certain passages a dual meaning, use a hyphen instead of parentheses.

Do not write: he(she) climbed the mountain.
Instead, write: he-she climbed up the mountain.

Otherwise, some might take offense at seeing the feminine form “in parentheses”!

For aesthetic coherence in your texts, use the same format for singular-plural (instead of singular(plural)) as for masculine-feminine.

Reader Habits:

When reading an article, readers generally follow simple rules and have their habits. These should be taken into account when writing.

Topics that Engage: The Core Audience

The topic directly concerns the reader.
The topic relates to the reader's immediate environment.
The rule of serial events.
Major events.

The Article Itself:

The 5W rule: Who, When, What, Where, Why. These five elements must appear as soon as possible in the article, such as in the introduction.
The introduction and conclusion must be engaging (see the second part of this article).
The introduction should contain the core information.
Headlines help counteract the daunting effect of a large block of text. They summarize or introduce the topics.
Subtitles should provide information that will be expanded on afterward, not beforehand. They are written after the article and layout are complete. They always contain a strong element of the article.
Sentences that are easy for the average reader to read are generally no longer than about fifteen words. The more concrete a subject is, the longer the sentences can be. An abstract topic should be handled with short sentences and many examples.

To avoid:

enumerations
verbs at the end of sentences
repetition of a single style (e.g., always subject/verb/object)

Photographs:

People in photos are always viewed by readers.
For portraits: use a frame and avoid straight-on photos.
Two elements capture readers' attention when it comes to people: the face and the hands.
Don't forget to include a scale if necessary.
ALWAYS include a caption with a striking piece of information.

Basic Rules for Writing an Article:

Get straight to the point.
Importance of the title.
Provide examples familiar to readers.
Avoid the “insider's perspective” (a topic of interest only to the author).
The title should be reflected in the headline and in the text.
Precision and objectivity.

How to “Sell Information” to the Reader

The information market is highly competitive and requires knowledge of certain tools to capture the reader's attention. Various surveys, notably in journalism, have shown that some topics work much better than others. In decreasing order of reader interest, we find:

The New:
The topic is known, but not to the public. You're the one revealing it to them.

The Exclusive:
You are the only one who attended a particular event, interviewed a notable figure, or obtained a revelation.

The Truth:
You provide new information on a topic about which the reader already has an opinion. You challenge a previously established view.

The First-Hand Experience:
A unique topic that only you can discuss because you were there. You saw, you heard. No one else can tell the story as well as you.

Everything You Need to Know:
You explain everything about a complex or little-known topic. You have a wealth of information gathered on the subject.

How To:
You provide solutions to problems directly related to the reader. They feel personally involved, and you can address one of their concerns.

A Fresh Perspective:
You offer a new view on a familiar topic, allowing the reader to rediscover it.

How to Start an Article Effectively

Here are some approaches to starting an article that have proven effective. Look through newspapers and magazines, and you're likely to find these types of introductions...

Quotation in quotes:
“The deal was already in the bag…” Nothing seemed to shake Raoul De La Bidoche's confidence before he lost his pack.

Direct Information (5W in one sentence):
On July 14, 1981, in Tours, a prodigy was born, sparking the global beer-drinking revolution: Jules.

Concluding Start:
It's the end for Stephanie, who was sentenced by the court for napping during meetings...

The Question:
Jules, do you know him? He's the most...
Need more energy?
Is global warming getting under your skin?

Exclamation, Exaggeration:
Amazing, this new machine...
Incredible!

Mystery:
You probably believed, like all of us, that...

Assertion:
This is certainly one of the greatest discoveries of...

How to End an Article Effectively

The same principles apply for ending an article. Some techniques for a good introduction also work for conclusions.

The Quote:
As my grandfather used to say: “Ill-gotten gains seldom profit when you leave on time.”

Conclusive Ending:
And that's it for Stephanie, whom we won't see again until her release.

The Question:
Who could have guessed?
Stay tuned for the next issue?

Exclamation:
She managed to turn blood pudding into gold. Fantastic!
He finished his sprint head over heels. Hilarious!

Broadening the Scope:

Looking Ahead:

Changing Location:

Bibliographic Standards

Citing a Print Author

Bibliographic citations follow specific rules that ensure useful consistency and clarity. These rules are often specific to the journals where one wishes to publish but generally adhere to certain main principles. The APA (American Psychological Association) [1], highly active in this area, provides the basis for what follows.
The purpose of a document's bibliography is to allow the reader to identify and locate ALL original documents cited in the text and on which it is based.

It should therefore include:

All documents that were actually read and explicitly cited in the text;
Only those.

When typing a text, it is preferable to use Times 12 font, or Times New Roman 12, as it is the most commonly used. However, the Objectif Sciences Association mostly uses Trebuchet MS font.

Bibliographic reference formats can vary from one journal to another.

This article will also be updated regularly, as these standards evolve over time.

You must give the name of the author(s) and the publication date within the text.

The general rule is to use the Author + Date key

3 possibilities:

A recent study by Strickland and Viemeister (1996) showed ...
In 1996, Strickland and Viemeister showed ...
A study showed ... (Strickland & Viemeister, 1996)

2 authors: always cite both names.

For 3 to 5 authors:

The first time, cite all authors.
Example: Yost, Sheft, and Opie (1989) showed that ...
Example: Other authors (Yost, Sheft, & Opie, 1989) ...

Note that if you cite multiple authors outside parentheses, you always connect the last two with “and” (not “&”). Conversely, within parentheses, you always use “&” (not “and”).

Then use only the first author's name followed by “et al.”
Example: Yost et al. (1989) showed that ...
Unless confusion is possible between two references. In that case, list as many authors as needed to clarify, followed by “et al.”

More than 6 authors:
From the first mention, cite only the first author followed by “et al.” unless there is a risk of confusion between two references. In that case, list as many authors as necessary to clarify, followed by “et al.”

Multiple Citations

Use the order of the bibliography list.
Separate different authors with a semicolon.
Separate different works by the same author with a comma.

Example: several studies (Dorrow & O'Neal, 1979; Murray, 1970, 1985)

When the author is an association

Two possible cases:

If there is no common and well-known abbreviation:
Each time, cite the full name of the association as the author.

If there is a common abbreviation:
The first time, give the full name followed by the abbreviation in brackets.
